WHY ANNA MLASOWSKY MAKES MY GLASS HEART TREMBLE

Meet Anna Mlasowsky. She is not just another emerging contemporary glass artist; she is a rule breaker, a glass whisperer, and a material magician who plays with light, sound and identity like it is her private playground. When I discovered her work, I felt that electric buzz, the kind that zips up your spine and whispers, “We are about to dive deep.”

Anna’s pieces do not sit quietly waiting to be admired. They hum, vibrate and echo, pulling you in to question everything you think you know about glass. Her series “Resonance” transforms sound into solid form, using vibration to sculpt kiln-cast glass clouds. It is like watching music become tangible. In “Enabling Transparency,” she explores rare earth materials and environmental politics, turning glass into a medium for urgent conversations about global resources and power structures.

Her work “Myriad’s” expands on this curiosity even further, using layered glass surfaces and shifting optical effects to explore multiplicity and fluid identities. It feels as if each layer holds a new secret, waiting to be discovered by your wandering eyes. Then there is “Things That Talk,” where Anna collaborates with scientists and technologists to create interactive installations that invite viewers to literally listen to the glass. It is a perfect intersection of art, science and sensory experience, and it makes you question what it really means for a material to ‘speak.’

In “As Advertised,” Anna dissects themes of consumerism and body image, using distorted glass forms and performative gestures to reflect on how society sells identities back to us. It is bold, cheeky and a little uncomfortable — in the best way possible. It is like holding up a warped mirror to yourself and asking, “Who am I really?”

Anna’s deep respect for glass as a living entity, almost a collaborator rather than a passive medium, is something I deeply connect with. Her practice is honest, vulnerable and unafraid to get messy. She tears down rigid definitions and exposes the material’s potential for transformation, much like our own identities and stories.

There is also that mischievous sense of playfulness. In performances like “4 Feet Apart,” she smashes glass rods with dancers, turning fragility into unexpected sound and movement. It is chaotic, raw and refreshingly human. This element of surprise and childlike curiosity is exactly what I want to infuse in my own work. Art should make you lean in, laugh, question and feel, not just tiptoe around politely.

Anna’s fearless exploration of transformation, honesty and surprise is everything I love about glass art. She proves that glass can be scientific, political, personal and playful all at once. She pushes beyond traditional definitions, weaving in science, movement and social critique to create experiences that feel electric and alive.

If you have not yet fallen for Anna Mlasowsky, now is your moment. You will see exactly why she makes my glass heart tremble with excitement.
